Transitions is a women’s group, aged 50 and older, that was started at Christ the King in 2008. It is open to any interested women, including others not necessarily affiliated with Christ the King. It was established to support one another in making the various life-changing transitions of life. Most of the original members initially were still working outside the home but have since retired and have had additional major life changes over the years. We enjoy each other’s company and support each other, each month during the school year. The programs are self-generated. At meetings we learn something new, do something fun, make small field trips to various religious faith facilities, have potlucks a couple times a year, and enjoy snacks and a glass of wine or other drinks together at meetings. We have provided food service at memorial services for members who have been widowed.
Meetings are held the second Monday of each month in a member’s home. Some previous meetings have been about Black Spirituals, a trip to Houston’s Botanical Garden, a presentation of Sew Loved Quilts (photo), a discussion of how specific women have impacted our lives in positive ways and a variety of programs about health, fitness, finance, legal issues, downsizing, widowhood, family relations and details about the work of staff members at Christ the King.
At our October meeting, it’s pie baking time! And pie eating time! Our Transitions meeting will be October 12, at 1:00pm, at Joann Welton’s house at 4029 Milton Street, Houston 77005. Joann is going to demonstrate her pie making skills. She’s not only going to demonstrate some methods she uses, but she’ll have pies to sample, and a take home copy of some of her recipes. If you would like to be included in the email announcements for RSVPing for the meetings, please contact Linda Alexander, LindAlexander@aol.com (only one “A” between the Linda and the Alexander) 713-882-6885.
