Confirmation Class

Confirmation class is generally taught for students in grades 6, 7, and 8, though special circumstances regarding when a student begins the curriculum may be accommodated. First, second, and third-year students are taught together.

Our confirmation class meets on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. using hybrid technology so that we can have youth join in-person or online together. We use a three-year rotation cycle to study scripture, Martin Luther’s Small Catechism, church history, and world religions. Our Confirmation schedule is the following:

Jan. 4: Moses and Exodus

Jan. 11: Lutherhill Conversation and Mitzah Day

Jan. 18: Moses and Golden Calf

Jan. 25: Wandering People

Feb. 1: Confirmation Student and Parent Check In Gathering

Feb. 8: The Promised Land

Feb. 15: Carnival Brunch Prep and Annual Meeting

Feb. 22: Judges and Deborah

The goal of our time together is to guide our youth in developing their own language of the Christian faith and accompany them to affirming their baptismal promises at the end of their 8th-grade year.

Confirmation class begins on Rally Day in September with an orientation and ends on the first Sunday of May each year with a celebration brunch. The curriculum culminates in a public Affirmation of Baptism and the completion of a “Confirmation Project” in a celebrative Confirmation Sunday service in May of each year.

Confirmation Class 2024

Confirmation Class Projects

Our 2024 Confirmation Class affirmed their baptism and displayed their Confirmation Projects for the congregation to experience on Sunday, May 12.

Eloise and Cooper Polansky, students at Saint John's School, both for their confirmation projects made beautiful stained glass windows to express their faith. Cooper found Luther's explanation of the 10 Commandments fascinating. Eloise learned to always trust and believe in herself and God in tough times.

Colin Burke and Andreas Fulluando for their confirmation projects wrote research papers on Martin Luther and Abraham which explored their history and how they relate to these figures of our faith.

Avery Derr and Jesus Ortega for their confirmation projects wrote research papers on the Trinity which each described their own interpretation and understanding of how God is active in the world.

Ethan Pelletier for his confirmation project wrote his own devotionals to which describe his relationship with God.

Sophie Santana created a portrait of the beach to which she feels closest God and how the beach gives a wonderful metaphor for the Christian faith.
