Dear faithful People of Christ the King Lutheran Church:

 

The theme of our stewardship pledge campaign encourages us: 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.          

(Hebrews 12:1 and 2)

 

Reminding us that we who “feebly struggle” to live faithfully in response to God’s gifts to us are cheered on by those who “in glory shine.” Out stewardship of God’s gifts is never solitary but always communal. With that in mind, as of noon this past Friday, September 25, 2026:

28 community members of the Christ the King Church have pledged

$149, 640 to the mission and ministry of this congregation.

 

Thanks to all who have already pledged time and talent as well as treasure!

 

Please return your pledge form as soon as possible. Our intent is to receive all pledge forms and celebrate your gifts on Reformation Sunday, October 25, 2026. We are working for a 100% pledge return. To that end, we have 31 members of our congregation and 10 members of our council who have agreed to encourage our full participation.

 

If you have lost your pledge form, our ushers as well as these “encouragers” attending each group gathering have replacement forms.

Please return your pledge form -for the sake of the joy set before us - in person as part of our Saturday and Sunday offerings or by mail no later than Sunday, October 25.

 

Finally, given all the challenges and rising tensions of these days, we want to provide as much comfort and support as possible. Therefore, beginning we offer:

 

  1. SANCTUARY – before and after each service and ask worshipers to consider our nave to be safe and quiet space for all who seek to pray, meditate, or simply be quietly alone.
  2. HEALING BLESSING – laying on of hands and anointing is always a part of our Saturday liturgy. After each Sunday service, there will be two ministers of healing available in the nave; one on the south side of the organ, the other near the Memorial Garden/Columbarium window.
  3. PASTORAL PRESENCE – between 6:45 and 7:15 each Wednesday evening beginning this Wednesday, either Deacon Ben or I will be available in the nave for quiet conversation, prayer, or anointing for healing – before choir rehearsal.
  4. POST-ELECTION VESPERS – at 6:45 pm, Wednesday, November 4, 2026, to reflect and pray for our Nation and our newly-elected leaders.

Also, during Rice University’s current construction, we can access the Rice parking lots by entering through entrance 13a from Greenbriar and parking as close to the construction fence as you are able.
