Dear Fellow Christ the King Members,

As members of Christ the King, we are called to God’s mission of love and service, especially to the oppressed and needy.  We support our mission partners via special monthly collections, our annual Christ the King Festival Auction, and volunteer opportunities throughout the year.  We also have the Christ the King Evangelical Lutheran Church Foundation that supports our community by funding grants on an annual basis.

Last week, the CTK Foundation Board of Directors met to review thirteen grant applications, which totaled $150,000. While we were so pleased to receive so many applications, the Foundation had approximately $24,000 to distribute to the community. I am honored as the President of the Christ the King Lutheran Church Foundation to share with you that we will be awarding grants to support the ministries of CTK Sew Loved Quilts, CTK Altar Guild, Think Pink, IM Houston (formerly Interfaith Ministries Houston), Houston Food Bank, Kindred Kitchen, Memorial Assistance Ministries, and AMMPARO.

The principal activity of the Foundation is to provide grants for strategic purposes to support the ministry of the church and organizations whose purposes are aligned with the missional emphases of the church.  These regular grants cannot support the annual operating budget of the congregation, but may provide capital for new initiatives, capital needs, outreach ministries, and other appropriate non-recurring priorities. The Foundation’s board of directors meets annually to consider grant applications and issue regular grants from the Foundation’s General Endowment Fund, subject to a policy that authorizes regular grants of approximately 3.5% of the three-year average balance in that fund.

Are you wondering where the Foundation receives their funds?  Church members can contribute to the Endowment directly at any time, or via long term planning such as naming the Foundation as an heir in their wills or as a beneficiary on their insurance policy.

The Foundation will be accepting new grant applications in our next regular cycle in Q4 of this year with a deadline of December 31st, to be awarded in early 2026.  We would like to invite you to prayerfully consider a contribution to the Foundation in the upcoming year. Collectively, we can continue the great work funded by the Foundation.

Peace and blessings,
Wendy Wiker
