truly interesting topic. Session one includes both listening
and interpretation of the origins of this powerful, yet often

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
The annual Pancake Supper will be February 24 in the Parish
Hall. Come and eat all the pancakes and sausage you can and
enjoy the music of the Carnival. Traditionally, this is the
day people eat up all the food they can’t have during
Lent - butter, meat, eggs, and wine - and have a last big
party to last them the six weeks until Easter. There will
be projects for the kids and dancing for everyone, and we’ll
sing our last “Alleluia.” Supper will be served
from 5:15 until 6:45 p.m. If you can help shop, prepare for,
or cook at the supper, please
contact Marie Monroe. Come and have the most fun you’ll
have until Easter.
Children’s Valentine Party
Saturday, February 7, at 10:30 a.m., in the parish hall
children can decorate valentine cookies, make valentines,
and play valentine games. Children of all ages are invited.
Cookies will be provided, but bring your own sprinkles or
decorations for the cookies and any special items you want
for your valentines. If you plan to attend, RSVP
to Pam Linberg
Sunday Café
Sunday Café provides lunches in the parish hall at
12:15 p.m. An adult’s lunch is $7; a child’s lunch
is $3. First time visitors receive a complimentary lunch;
undergraduate and graduate student lunches are always complimentary.
Fellowship
Sunday Church School Valentine’s Baskets
Once again this year, our Sunday Church School (SCS) will
collect small candy and gift items for our members that are
receiving communion from the Lay Eucharistic Ministry. Please
bring your gifts to SCS by Sunday, February 8, so the gift
baskets can be assembled and ready for delivery.
Valentine’s Bake Sale
The Luther League will hold a Valentine’s Bake Sale
on Sunday, February 8 after both worship services. All proceeds
from the sale will go to help with expenses for a summer camping
trip for the group. Any baked good donations will be accepted
at the church kitchen on either Saturday, February 7, from
2:00-5:00 p.m. or on Sunday morning. Come to church hungry
and support our youth in their fund raising event!
Baby Shower
You are invited to a Baby Shower honoring our wonderful
nursery attendant Roz Potts who is expecting her first child,
a son, in mid-February. Please join us in the council room
after the late service on Sunday, February 1, from 12:15 to
1:45. If you are unable to attend but would like to participate,
please feel free to drop off your gift in the church office.
Do you Like Good Food and Good Fellowship?
The Christ the King Church food service ministry continues
to serve outstanding meals for Wednesday Night Alive! from
5:30 - 7:15 p.m. All members who enjoy good food and good
fellowship are invited to join us by volunteering one Wednesday
night during the spring semester. We have a full range of
volunteer positions available from skilled to unskilled (from
cooks to servers to dishwashers). Even the most kitchen-phobic
person will find the new dishwasher a blast! For more information
or to volunteer, please
contact Courtney Harper
It’s Photo Time
For the benefit of our entire congregation we are creating
a church family pictorial directory. In order for the directory
to be a complete success, we need the participation of everyone
in our church family.
Our new directory will be a valuable tool for all of us.
With the turn of a page, everyone will know the face and names
of each of our church members. Plus, our directory will help
promote fellowship, showcase our church, and help us reach
out to new members.
Photography sessions will be held April 20-24, 29, 30 and
May 1. Sign-up for appointments will begin February 8 and
will continue through March 14.
Mavericks Softball
Several young adults from Christ the King Church are members
of a softball team called the “Mavericks” that
plays in a local co-ed recreational league. Are you interested
in helping them out or cheering them on? If so, email
Tim Redl or coach
Matt Conway at. Play ball!
Movies in the Hall!

be approved and staffed by a volunteer family. If you plan

Parents’ Night Out
The next PNO will happen on Saturday, February 7, from 5:30-10:30

Participants need to volunteer for two Saturday evenings a
year, and children must be RSVP’ed by Wednesday. Sign-up

Education
“The Problem of Pain” February 8, 15, &
22
Steve Wentland will lead a discussion of C.S. Lewis’
“The Problem of Pain”. C.S. Lewis attempts to
reconcile the massive amount of pain and suffering (much of
which we consider unjust) with an all-powerful, loving God.
The last class will consider examples of how Lewis’
explanation works out in practice. Classes will be held in
the second floor council room at 9:45-10:45 a.m.
Friday Morning Bible Study
Friday Morning Bible Study meets weekly to study the lectionary
readings for the following Sunday. Snacks are served at 10:00;
class begins at 10:30. Class meets in the second floor council
room.
Video/Film Project Discussion
Interested in film? Either in discussing or participating
in some film/video production projects?
Come gather around the dinner table at the Wednesday evening
supper on February 4 and 11, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Participants
will explore the possibilities for film projects and photo
exhibits built around congregational life and will discuss
some of the opportunities that exist for using video as expressive
media in the arts and for documentaries. Come share your thoughts
and experiences. Anna Fay Williams, composer and librettist,
will lead the discussion.

Lutheran Theology for the 21st Century
February 29, March 7 & 14
Simultaneously changing and staying the same, fourth century
