Christ the King’s
Health Ministry grew out of a missional emphasis proposed by
the Church Council in 2000. Building upon the work of the Congregational
Care Team, a member-to-member support ministry, the Health Ministry
Team explored ways to integrate faith and health. In December,
2001, Linda Schoene was commissioned as CTK’s Congregational
Nurse, a licensed registered nurse committed to the healing
mission of the church. The Congregational Nurse coordinates
the work of the Health Ministry Team and serves the congregation
through health education, support and advocacy. The Congregational
Care Team serves as an important adjunct to health ministry
by meeting the needs of church members through meals, prayer
notes, visits, phone calls and transportation.
Faith Community Nursing, often referred to as parish nursing,
is a specialty nursing role that reclaims the historic roots
of health and healing found in many religious traditions.
Its mission is an intentional integration of faith and the
practice of nursing, designed to serve people in the context
of a faith community. Its purpose is to embrace the concept
of holistic care for individuals and, in doing so, recognizes
the importance of the spiritual dimension in health and healing.
Spiritual health is essential to well-being and, in the presence
of illness, spiritual well-being can bring healing, even in
the absence of a cure. For more information about, see nursing
specialty.
Congregational nursing services are available to all members
by contacting Linda
Schoene or through the church office at 713-523-2864.
The Congregational Nurse is available for home and/or hospital
visits, phone consultation, health education and advocacy.
In addition, look for Nurse Notes in each Banner. Blood pressure
screenings occur on the last Sunday of every month after worship
services.
