Christ the King Lutheran Church welcomes into membership all who would join it in worshiping the Triune God and in serving the world. Its widely diverse membership includes people of many different religious backgrounds and some of little or no religious background at all.
New members are received in accordance with the policy of the Lutheran Church as follows:
The Lutheran Church has historically emphasized continuing religious education from early childhood through adulthood. It believes that church membership should be undertaken deliberately following careful instruction in the Lutheran faith. At Christ the King Lutheran Church this function occurs through Adult Catechesis scheduled throughout the year. (Catechesis is a Greek word for teaching by word of mouth.) The topics follow The Small Catechism written by Martin Luther.
A two-day class covering all topics is offered usually on a Friday, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and the following Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
With each topic, special emphasis is given to insights of traditional and current theological scholarship. For persons not of Lutheran background Adult Catechesis is essential; for Lutherans it provides a vital review of their faith. Adult Catechesis offers a forum for inquiry. Understandably, some participants defer church membership pending further reflection. Those who decide to join are received into membership at a Sunday service.
