Candidates for Holy Baptism are infants born to members of the congregation or those for whom members assume responsibility, and older persons who have been instructed in the faith and desire to be baptized. Everyone baptized at Christ the King Church becomes a member of the congregation, and for that reason baptisms always occur at a public service of worship when the congregation is present.

When a child is baptized, the parents assume primary responsibility for the spiritual nurture of the child. It is permitted but not required that others serve as sponsors. Sponsors need not be Lutheran, but they are expected to be active members of a Christian church.
