Christ the King Lutheran Church welcomes the opportunity to provide church weddings for members. Premarital counseling, wedding planning, and the prayers of the congregation assist and support couples in their decision to become husband and wife.
A marriage, a wedding, and a church wedding, while often related, are three different things.
In planning a church wedding at Christ the King Church it is important that the couple make an appointment with a pastor as far in advance as possible. During that initial appointment the opportunities and requirements for weddings at the church will be outlined, arrangements made for premarital counseling (normally a minimum of four sessions), and wedding plans discussed.
Church weddings are not scheduled during the seasons of Advent and Lent, as a rule. In any case, church weddings do not occur during the solemn days of Holy Week.
Wedding music is selected by the couple in consultation with the organist. Requests for other music or for musicians other than one of our church organists are subject to the approval of a pastor.
All arrangements, decor, the use of the parish hall, and the participation of other ministers, are dependent on the prevailing policy and practice of Christ the King Lutheran Church. No photographs are allowed during the wedding worship service.
Formal announcements of the wedding, including the preparation and mailing of wedding invitations, should not be made until a substantial portion of the premarital counseling has been completed and the pastor and Church Council have given their approval.
Christ the King Lutheran Church and its staff will cooperate in every possible way with members who desire a church wedding. In the event, however, that a wedding cannot be held at Christ the King Church for any reason, the pastors will assist the couple by offering suggestions for other arrangements.
