bread for the worldBread for the World Sunday - October 18

As this year’s Offering of Letters continues, Bread for the World is becoming increasingly engaged in new initiatives by Congress, the Senate, and the administration to make foreign assistance more effective and increase its focus on agriculture, an area of key importance to hungry people in poor countries. H.R. 2139 and S. 1524 are strong building blocks in the effort to make U.S. foreign assistance more effective in fighting hunger and poverty. The House bill calls on the president to develop and implement a comprehensive national strategy for global development. The Senate bill states that it is U.S. policy to promote global development, good governance, and the reduction of poverty and hunger. This is a first in U.S. policy. Although the bills are not identical, both would begin the process of foreign aid reform and an outline of concrete steps to better coordinate foreign assistance. Our Offering of Letters on October 18 will encourage our elected officials to support the bills and to continue the work needed to improve the lives of millions of people and to promote global food security. Join Phil Dahlberg after both Sunday services on October 18 and write a letter to your elected officials. Sample letters, addresses, and writing materials will be available. Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation’s decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad. Christ the King Lutheran Church is a covenant member of Bread for the World.

Join Christ the King Church members and friends after the Sunday services on Sunday, October 18 in a letter writing campaign.
