How Valuable Are Your Food Donations?

from Connections, Second Quarter 2009; A quarterly publication of the Christian Community Service Center

ccsc logoThe wholesale cost of food distributed through the food pantry during 2008 was $427,971.91, yet CCSC only spent $100,897.75. We accomplished this in two ways. One, we order as much of our purchased food as possible from the Houston Food Bank because they provide us with a substantial discount. In 2008 that discount was worth $44,746.85. Two, the majority of the food given to clients last year came from food donations and was worth $282,327.31.

Why are we sharing these figures with you? Because we want you to know that the food you donate adds great value to CCSC’s bottom line and more importantly feeds the hungry people in our community. So, please continue to participate in your church, scout group or any other food drive – you are making a difference and fighting hunger in your community.

You may drop off non-perishable food items in the basket in the narthex on Sundays.
