We at Christ the King have been praying for peace in Sudan for some time. Now, at the invitation of the ELCA, we can join the larger church in advocating for peace by mailing postcards, either via U.S. mail or email, to urge President Obama to achieve:
• Protection of civilians from violence, starvation and disease
• Sustainable peace for all Sudan
• Justice for victims and accountability for perpetrators
The ongoing conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan has resulted in more than 2 million people forced to flee their homes and over 200,000 people killed.
Leadership from the United States was critical in brokering the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) between north and south Sudan in 2005. Today, U.S. leadership is necessary to ensure the CPA is fully implemented and to help broker a meaningful peace agreement in Darfur.
During the 2008 Presidential campaign, then Sen. Obama promised "unstinting resolve" to end the genocide in Darfur. Today, the Save Darfur Coalition and its partners are working to make sure President Obama follows through on his campaign promise. As part of the "Be a Voice for Darfur" campaign, Sudan peace advocates are collecting postcards that will be delivered to President Obama in April.
Postcards will be available in the narthex on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings on March 7/8, March 14/15, and March 21/22.
You need only fill one out, attach 27 cents postage and place in the mail. Or, if you prefer an e-postcard, send one any time during the month of March
