Located just north of Houston, Cypress is the future home of two Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity families. Though Cypress was located directly in Hurricane Ike’s path, it is not the immediate destruction caused by the storm, but rather the lingering after effects that present a new challenge for the Mitchell and Rangel families. Work began on both homes last summer, but a shortage of volunteers is now slowing progress. In the wake of Hurricane Ike, many dedicated Habitat volunteers are still occupied with cleanup projects in the greater Houston area. Without sufficient volunteers to work on these homes, their completion is endangered.
