church signNew Sign for CTK

Long overdue, the design for a new sign on the corner of Rice and Greenbriar was approved by Church Council. The design incorporates the familiar logo of the congregation in a monument of Texas limestone like that of the whole church. Merriman-Holt Architects prepared the design. Other familiar contractors will do the work, including Miner-Dederick Construction and W.W. Bartlett, Inc. (masonry). The graphic work was created by James Glass, husband of Gail Glass.

Cost of the project is estimated at $30,000. Council authorized an appeal to members and friends of Christ the King Church for that amount. Construction will begin as soon as the funding is in hand. Gifts may be made by check and designated “sign” or you can contribute online. Council president, Russell Post, observed that “installing a new sign at Rice and Greenbriar is especially appropriate this year, as we have dedicated ourselves in the Mission Emphases to emphasize hospitality and make this a special place of welcome.” He also noted “the current sign is deteriorating, and it is important that we act responsibly to replace it as soon as possible.”

The current sign is enjoyed by thousands who pass by our church daily. Many refer to the church as “Christ the Lutheran King” because of the imaginative way the calligraphy is laid out. Many new members indicate that the sign was an “interesting” factor that drew them to the congregation.
