Coming Next Month
Michelle Shonbeck, Executive Director of the Christian Community Service Center (CCSC), will be coming to Christ the King Church for two Sundays next month. On April 6, she will share the mission of CCSC, giving an update on the programs. CCSC is a coalition of 37 churches united in service to the needy, and it serves the community through six distinct programs. On April 13, she will be teaching a course entitled “Raising Philanthropic Children”, which is aimed at families of young children. This class weaves in giving/volunteerism, consumerism and basic money management principles.

Michelle has been affiliated with CCSC since 1988. She began as a volunteer, and in 1993 was hired to direct one of the programs. In 1995, she was promoted to the position of Executive Director. Prior to working at CCSC, Michelle was in corporate human resources.

Michelle is deeply committed to CCSC’s mission and believes that serving others is a sacred privilege. One of her favorite passages of scripture is Matthew 25:31-40, when Christ told his disciples that in serving the needy, we are actually serving Him. She strives to utilize both her faith and business skills in providing effective leadership to the CCSC community.

Under Michelle’s leadership, CCSC has won the prestigious CORE Award, given to an outstanding Houston area nonprofit demonstrating excellence in applying core business principles to the accomplishment of its mission. In 2003, the organization received the Award for Excellence given by the Better Business Bureau for being Houston’s best small nonprofit organization. In 2005, CCSC was again honored by the BBB with the Pinnacle Award for CCSC’s superior commitment to ethics, overall excellence, and quality in the workplace.

Michelle is active in several professional and community organizations. She is a graduate of Texas A&M with a BBA in Marketing, a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and is married to Scott and has a daughter, Jessica, and a son, Mark.
