Meal Drops for New Parents

Do you remember what it was like when you first brought your brand new baby home from the hospital? The overwhelming joy? And the overwhelming exhaustion? And the gratitude you felt when someone reached out to help?

One way we can reach out to new parents at Christ the King Church is to provide meals for families with newborns. There is a team of volunteers that provides meals to families in other times of need, but those volunteers stay busy with ongoing needs and are not always able to assist with meals for families with newborns. A specific group of volunteers to provide meals for families with newborns would ensure that this service is at least always offered. And if the volunteers are also parents of young children, the volunteers can become as much a part of the ministry as the food – inviting new parents to check out the nursery, letting them know about music classes for babies on Wednesday nights, or just proving that we all survive those first few sleep-deprived weeks and months. In a small way, we can provide nourishment for the bodies and souls of the moms and dads who are caring for the newest members of our church.

Please consider volunteering to help with this effort. The need for this service obviously will be periodic, and if many people are willing to help, the time commitment will be minimal. You might offer to cook and deliver a homemade meal to a new family – or you might just drop off some yummy take-out. Either way, the new parents are sure to be appreciative of the food and the chance to connect with other Christ the King Church parents.
If you are interested in helping, please email Leslie Winesett or Beverly Davis. We’ll put you on a list of volunteers and will contact you when there are opportunities to assist. Thanks so much!
