Souper Bowl of CaringFebruary Mission Offerings will be designated for SEARCH, starting with the Luther League’s annual Souper Bowl of Caring effort on Super Bowl Sunday, February 3. Look in your February Banner for information on SEARCH and its many valuable programs.
Souper Bowl of Caring is a simultaneous effort on Super Bowl Sunday by youth in over 14,000 churches all across the country to collect money for those who are hungry and hurting. In 2007, over $8 million was raised nationwide through this effort. All of the money collected is donated directly to the charity selected by the participating youth group. None of the money is sent to Souper Bowl headquarters. Organizers only ask that each participant report their collection so national totals can be determined and announced. You can learn more at www.souperbowl.org. In addition to the Big Game in February, Christ the King Church’s very own Luther League will celebrate Souper Bowl Sunday on February 3. Our youth will join young people in churches all across the country in using soup pots to collect money for those who are hungry and hurting.
The Luther League will donate our congregation’s Souper Bowl collection to SEARCH-Houston’s Alternative to Homelessness. Since the Souper Bowl of Caring became a national grassroots event in 1993, more than $20 million has gone to help those in need. Please support the youth of our church in this effort to love our neighbors by dropping a dollar (or two!) in the soup pot on February 3.
