Covenant Lutheran Church is hosting a STAR training event, August 8-10. STAR stands for Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience and is a joint effort of Church World Service and Eastern Mennonite University’s Center for Justice and Peacebuilding. On a personal note, Sally Ahrens and Rozella White, synod staffers, participated in a STAR workshop through the Disney Leadership Institute. Both found the information presented to be extremely relevant and it provided tangible ways to address traumatic experiences of young people.
STAR supports personal and community healing through raising awareness about
trauma and its impact. STAR training teaches about trauma awareness as well
as nonviolent conflict resolution as strategies for building healthy communities.
A program for educators, religious leaders, health professionals, counselors,
parents-–and anyone else who cares about transformation and growth!
The STAR framework integrates understandings from a number of professional fields to help meet the needs of youth in communities impacted by trauma.
