Houston Lutheran Campus Ministry is Officially Rolling!

On July 22, the congregation of Christ the King Lutheran Church voted unanimously to extend a call to Brad Fuerst - recent graduate of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary (LTSS). For the past two months, the Houston Lutheran Campus Ministry (HLCMC) call committee and Brad have been in conversation and discernment. As many know, this campus ministry position has been developed and funded through the course of 4 years of diligent work by the HLCMC, a partnership of the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod and Christ the King Lutheran Church. The vote was unanimous to call Brad as the campus pastor and marks an important milestone for Lutheran Campus Ministry in Houston. Brad will serve the students, faculty, and staff of Rice University, the University of Houston, and the Texas Medical Center.

Brad, who hails from Hildreth, Nebraska, is a graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina. Although this will be his first call, Brad brings passion for the Gospel and experience from his nine years as an English teacher at North High School, an inner-city science, technology and mathematics magnet high school in Omaha.

The campus pastor will have liturgical presence both at Christ the King Church and Houston area Lutheran congregations. Brad looks forward to establishing relationships with congregations throughout this synod. At the congregational meeting Brad remarked, “It speaks volumes of Christ the King Church and this synod that they have funded and are calling a pastor to serve an age group that is, by in large, MIA.”

Brad is married to the Rev. Taylor Meador Fuerst, an associate pastor at St. Luke’s United Methodist in Houston. Taylor is a graduate of Duke Divinity School and Southern Methodist University. She is a native of Texas. Brad and Taylor met while serving at Group Workcamps - an interdenominational summer work camp program. Brad is an avid reader, regretfully infrequent runner, untalented golfer, and loyal Nebraska “Cornhusker” fan. Brad’s first day “on the job” as campus pastor was July 23. He will be ordained at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth, NE on Sunday, August 19 at 4:00 p.m. An installation date and location is soon to be announced.
