Houston Food Bank Award to Christ the King Church Team

submitted by Anna Stock

The volunteers from Christ the King Church who work at the Houston Food Bank six times a year were selected as one of the eight outstanding volunteer groups at the Houston Food Bank. Our group has been volunteering with the Houston Food Bank since 1991, and in the last two years we have donated more than 1800 hours a year. The award was presented at the Gracious Giving Awards Dinner on April 17, 2007 at the Junior League of Houston.

Check out the handsome trophy presented to the church in the Narthex, and shake the hands of some of the following persons who have signed up to get up early one Saturday every other month to help fight against hunger: Caleb Shaw, Jan and Jerry Bouquot, Gerti and Bruno Kuhn, Mary Neberman, Bill Chapman, Faith Venverloh, Bill Pelham, Flora Roeder, Thaine and Rochelle Manske and their children, grandchildren, and friends, Terri Koehler and her daughter Rebecca Nikonowicz and her daughter’s friend, Luke Dutch, Dewy and Nancy Letness, Therese Sturdivant and friends, Andrea and Martin Salas, Donna Olson-Salas, Michelle Beck, her mother Kay Beck, and her friend Marjorie Russell, Luann Novak, Fred Haman, Kurt Strack, David and Anna Stock, Linda Schoene and her daughter Christine, Patricia Cochrane Barnard, Lori Smith, Steven Bryant, Cindi Scruggs, Texas Anderson, Michael and Karin Von der Osten, Karen Getty, Nathan Wiker, Sally Muma, Carol Isbell, Laura Klaassen, Allyson Hurt, Kay Driscoll, Julie Giam, Marjorie Schultz, Barbara Maseberg, Kathy Haueisen and her grandchildren, Fredrico Salas, and Joe Schlichting.

It is not too late to add your name to the distinguished list. Please give your email address to Anna Stock, the radio for the volunteers, and she will send you a discreet email to remind you of the dates available. Children eight years and older, adults of any age, members and non-members are volunteering. Please join us. The next Food Bank Saturday will be May 12. We leave from the church parking lot promply at 8:00 a.m. and return about noon. Contact Anna Stock for more information or to volunteer.
