In the fall of 2006 we followed a program for the annual stewardship campaign called Consecration Sunday under the leadership of Pastor George Brookover. The program seeks to have people make their annual pledges as an act of worship answering the question, “What is God calling me to give to the ministries and mission of the church in the next year?” After three weekends of addresses by lay members to the congregation during worship, Pastor Brookover preached on Consecration Sunday and led members in completing pledge commitments at the end of services.
The program worked remarkably well. A total of more than 220 pledges were received, 139 of which were made on Consecration Sunday. By the end of 2006, the total amount pledged to operating funds and debt service was greater than $880,000.00, which is better even than the predicted pledges of $815,200.00 immediately after Consecration Sunday.
In comparison, as of December 31, 2005, $551,063 was pledged for the year 2006. With pledging at $880,000 for 2007 the increase is more than 60% from 2005!
The chart below shows graphically how financial participation in the life of a congregation can grow. The number of members contributing grew considerably and the average level of contributions grew greatly. The stewardship committee thanks the congregation for the positive and encouraging results of pledged giving to the ministries and mission of Christ the King Church for 2007.
