The Houston Lutheran Campus Ministry Council is interviewing candidates for a full-time campus pastor to serve students at Rice University, the University of Houston and institutions at the Texas Medical Center. The council has set a goal of calling a campus pastor this spring.
The campus ministry council is a joint effort of Christ the King Lutheran Church and the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod. Our congregation and the Synod will share the cost of the program. The campus pastor will expand Christ the King Church’s longstanding campus ministry for Rice and Medical Center students to the University of Houston. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has not had a campus ministry presence at the University of Houston in about 20 years.
The project has received strong financial support from Christ the King Church through the annual festival auction, the Christ the King Foundation and pledges from several members. In addition to support from the Synod budget and the Mission Endowment Fund, the project has received strong support from Faith Lutheran Church in Bellaire, Living Word Lutheran Church in Kathy, the Christ Lutheran Church Foundation in Brenham and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. A successful golf tournament raised more than $30,000 for the campus ministry initiative.
If you have questions about the campus ministry program, please contact any one of the congregation’s representatives on the campus ministry council: Pastor Robert Moore, Pastor Kathy Haueisen, Tim Redl, Nathan Wiker or Bill Mintz.
