MDR Children’s Choir from Leipzig in Concert on Shrove Tuesday

The MDR Children’s Choir from Leipzig will present a concert on February 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church. The choir performs works from a wide musical spectrum ranging from children’s songs to classical works from the baroque to the contemporary.

The MDR Children’s Choir was founded in 1948, making it one of the oldest children’s choirs in Leipzig; it takes its name from the public broadcasting station which sponsors it.

The choir’s international appearances have included the International Choirs competition in Verona, Italy; the Australian Singers’ League; and Basel, Switzerland. They recently recorded two CD’s, Songs and Stories of Animals and A Ringing Christmas Calendar. The choir is under the direction of Gunter Berger, who teaches conducting at the University of Leipzig.

Admission is free.
