The Lloyd family along with Tim Lenz and Luther Leaguer Amanda Penny delivered our 49 shoeboxes to the Seafarers’ Center at the port of Houston for the Holiday Gift Program on December 19. Members and friends of our congregation filled these shoe boxes with all sorts of surprises. The Luther League wrapped the boxes in colorful holiday papers throughout the month of December.
These gifts were given to seafarers who visited the Port of Houston during the holiday season by the chaplains of the Seafarers’ Ministry. This program has eight full-time multi-lingual chaplains who visit ships docked at the Port of Houston and hold nightly services for seafarers. Today, it is one of the largest centers for the distribution of Bibles as the center offers Bibles in over 40 languages.
In addition, the program trains chaplains for the maritime ministry, offers transportation for seafarers, and provides sports programs and a gift shop area. The center is open seven days a week.
