Mission Offering January Designations

Mission Offerings to be collected will continue to help change the World Two by Two! The Luther League began collecting donations in December for a Heifer Project Gift Ark. A Gift Ark allows Heifer Project International to send two of each animal and tree they work with to families around the world. This is the second Gift Ark project we have worked on at Christ the King Church, and we are halfway to the goal of $5000 to purchase it. To further support this project, the January Mission Offering has been designated to support Heifer Project International.

Heifer Project International is a nonprofit, Christian organization dedicated to ending world hunger and saving the earth. Since Heifer started, they have helped seven million families in over 125 countries and in 38 U.S. states. Animals provide milk, eggs, plowing power, and other benefits. These benefits can mean improved nutrition, education for children, health care, improved housing, and a new way of life. Families receiving animals agree to pass on the first offspring to another family in need, starting a never-ending chain of giving. This commonsense approach to sustainable development works—one family at a time. You can learn more at www.heifer.org.

The Heifer Gift Ark offers hope worldwide to families who are poor and hungry. Your donations will send animals on a voyage to where they are needed most. What a beautiful way to bring joy to the world. Be an “Ark Angel” and drop your donations into the Mission Offering basket each Sunday in January!

February Mission Offerings will be designated for SEARCH, starting with the Luther League’s annual Souper Bowl of Caring effort on Super Bowl Sunday, February 4. Look in your February Banner for information on SEARCH and its many valuable programs.

Souper Bowl of Caring is Souper Bowl Sunday a simultaneous effort on Super Bowl Sunday by youth in churches all across the country to collect money for those who are hungry and hurting. In 2006, over $5 million was raised nationwide through this effort. All of the money collected is donated directly to the charity selected by the participating youth group. None of the money is sent to Souper Bowl headquarters. You can learn more at www.souperbowl.org. In addition to the Big Game in February, Christ the King Church’s very own Luther League will celebrate Souper Bowl Sunday on February 5. Our youth will join young people in churches all across the country in using soup pots to collect money for those who are hungry and hurting. In 2005, over 13,000 youth groups in all 50 states participated in the Souper Bowl of Caring generating over $4 million. All of the money collected is donated to a charity selected by the participating youth group. None of the money is sent to Souper Bowl headquarters. Organizers only ask that each participant report their collection so national totals can be determined and announced. The Luther League will donate our congregation’s Souper Bowl collection to SEARCH-Houston’s Alternative to Home-lessness. Since the Souper Bowl of Caring became a national grassroots event in 1993, more than $20 million has gone to help those in need. Please support the youth of our church in this effort to loveourneighbors by dropping a dollar (or two!) in the soup pot on February 5.
