Second Friday Filmgoers Resume at MFAH in October

The Second Friday Filmgoers will begin the fall film evenings with a reception and film at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts in the Latin American Film Festival series on Friday, October 14. The reception, which begins at 6 p.m., will be held for the film director Nicolas Echevarria, who will be present at the museum for his film, “Cabeza de Vaca” at 7 p.m.

The adventures of Cabeza de Vaca should be of special interest here. After being shipwrecked in 1528, the Spanish Conquistador lived among the ancient Indian tribes in this area, learned their mystical culture, and became a healer. According to the MFAH film description—this New World collides with the Old as Spanish conquistadors seek to enslave the Indians, and Cabeza de Vaca must confront his own people and his past.

This should be an enjoyable way to refresh our history lessons, as well as having an opportunity to meet and hear from the director. We will be taking advantage of the special dinner and movie duo that the MFAH offers with a special discount. If you purchase your movie tickets at the box office starting at 5:30 p.m, you receive a voucher for 10% off of the individual meal at the Cafe Express in the Museum’s basement. Afterwards we will meet to discuss the film and have dessert.

Come join us for dinner, the reception and/or film at the Museum. If you would like assistance with transportation, email Anna Fay Williams. MFAH is located at 1001 Bissonnet at the corner with Montrose Blvd.
