As a follow up to Professor Matthias Henze’s adult forums on the apostle Paul, the Adult Forum on October 9 will focus on Paul’s description of “spiritual gifts.” All participants in the class will have the opportunity to begin the process of identifying their own personal “spiritual giftabilities.” In a survey of several thousand Christians, less than 25 percent felt they were making a contribution to their church’s mission in the world. Less than 10 percent could identify a “spiritual gift” they possess. Less than 5 percent were actively engaged in a ministry for which they felt a special calling or gift.
God has given each Christian two vitally important gifts. The first is the gift of faith in Jesus Christ, his work of redemption, and thus forgiveness of sin. The second is the gift of one or more special abilities, which are to be used for the purpose of unifying the body of Christ and for the growth of God’s Kingdom. These abilities are called spiritual gifts and they are received through our baptism. Like other presents, it is impossible to fully appreciate and make use of our spiritual gifts until they have been opened. Begin the process of opening up your spiritual giftabilities by attending this adult forum.
