Today’s youth leader might be 18 or 55. He or she might be studying to serve professionally as a youth director or might just be earning money to pay for studies in another field. He or she might be paid a few dollars an hour, a salary comparable to a public school teacher with benefits and paid vacations, or might be a concerned mom or dad who serves as a volunteer to make sure something is happening for the youth of the congregation.
Today’s youth leader needs to know:
Did you know that our Lutheran colleges and seminaries now offer degrees in Youth and Family Ministry?
Did you know we have over 40 people serving full or part time as youth directors in our Lutheran congregations in Houston?
Did you know there’s a national network for such folks that meets once a year?
Christ the King Lutheran Church is fortunate indeed to have had Tim Lenz serve in capacity of Youth Ministry for the past two summers. The trend of one trained person working with congregational youth who understands also how to be in partnership with parents and congregations to nurture, encourage, support, and offer leadership training to youth is more than a trend. It’s a time tested approach to mentoring young people from childhood to adulthood. The Council has recently approved inviting Tim back for one weekend a month to continue his work in our congregation. We look forward to his continued part time presence among us.
Thanks, Tim, for work well done!
