My Pyramid: An Individualized Eating Guide From the USDA

Originally introduced in 1992, the Food Pyramid has a new look. Designed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to encourage an individual approach to healthy eating, the new pyramid also emphasizes the importance of daily exercise and taking steps to a healthy lifestyle. The steps reflect the idea that individuals can benefit from taking small steps to improve diet and make daily exercise a habit.

The six colored bands, representing the five food groups and oils that are essential to a balanced diet, encourage variety. The width of the bands reflects the suggested proportions for each food group. A visit to http://mypyramid.gov allows individuals to personalize an eating plan.

My Pyramid Plan By entering age, gender and activity level, an individual receives a quick estimate of how much of each food group is suggested in a daily diet.
