A Year Later and Still Providing Nourishment to Houston’s Homeless
In April 2004, Christ the King Church held its first Feed the Homeless. The young adult group and campus ministry students wanted to reflect in our life together by participating in a service minded project.
Christ the King Church Feed the Homeless is modeled after Christ the Servant Lutheran Feed the Homeless ministry. Their Feed the Homeless program began in 1987. Pastor Jim Giannantonio founded the Homeless Ministry at Christ the Servant. Over the past year, the Homeless Ministry here at Christ the King Church has grown to be a vital and dynamic program of outreach. God has blessed this ministry such that we now prepare several hundred meals twice a month, which consists of 2 sandwiches, a drink, and snacks.
The Houston Food Bank supplies the majority of the food used to serve the community. And during the past month, Fiesta proudly volunteered to begin providing the 500 plastic sacks needed to bag the lunches together.
Christ the King Church Feed the Homeless ministry meets the 2nd & 4th Monday of every month at 5:45 p.m. in the parish hall to begin making the sandwiches. At 7:00 p.m. the food is delivered and the project complete by 8:00 p.m. During June and July Feed the Homeless will meet June 13th , June 27th , July 11th and July 25th.
There are several volunteer opportunities available and we would love to have you come and serve with us. If you have any questions regarding Feed the Homeless, please feel free to contact Erika Soechting. Come join us for sandwich making, fun and fellowship. See you soon!
