Rice University President Leebron sent out the following e-mail congratulating Kathy Collins on her new position as vice president for finance. Reporting to both the president and the provost:
“Kathy will head a division that includes the Budget Office, the Office of Institutional Research, and the Controller’s Office. She brings both strategic thinking and deep financial knowledge and expertise to the position, and I am delighted to have her join the senior administration in shaping Rice’s future.”
Kathy serves the church as our volunteer budget coordinator. Thank you Kathy for using your time and talent to serve both Rice University and Christ the King Church.
Peter Sidney Shaddock came in 2nd place for Olympic Sparring
and Honorable Mention for Forms for the 8-9 yrs Jr. 1st Black Belt Division
in the AAU Regional Taekwondo Championship on May 7. At the AAU Division Championships
in February, his sister, Gabby Shaddock placed 1st in Olympic
Sparring and 2nd in Forms for the 6-7 yrs Intermediate Belt Division, and their
mother, Nancy Shaddock placed 2nd in Point Sparring and 2nd
in Forms for the Adult Intermediate Belt Division. All three will be going on
to compete at the National Taekwondo Championships July 5-9 in Greensboro, NC.
Peter Sidney has also qualified to compete in the prestigious Junior Olympics
that will be held July 31- August 2 in New Orleans, LA.
John B. Boles, the William P. Hobby Professor of History at Rice University, has been appointed to the Fulbright-Leipzig Chair in American Studies at the University of Leipzig for the fall 2005 semester. This is a “distinguished lectureship” appointment through the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board of the Department of State, and under its auspices John will teach a lecture course and a graduate seminar in U.S. Southern History to German students who are fluent in both spoken and written English. John and Nancy will leave near the end of September for the four-month semester. They will return to Houston several times, primarily to see their new grandson, Parker Day Boles. John and Nancy’s stay in Leipzig will overlap with Robert and Kathy Moore’s visit.
