Welcome to our maiden edition of Nursery News! Of all the wonderful experiences and opportunities in life, few match the awe of holding a new baby and realizing the well being of this totally vulnerable little lump of new life is in our hands.
Soon awe turns to near panic, as we realize how much we don’t know about what this new little human needs. Ready or not, we are still responsible for the care of this crying, frustrated and frustrating little being. A helpless infant with no words to tell us what he or she needs, no patience as we guess, and no interest in what needs we might have for food or sleep or a few moments of conversation with another adult.
Then we move to a baptismal font. Here we stand, surrounded by family, friends, and members of the congregation, all hearing God’s promises to us and, together all promising to work together to help nurture this little person into adulthood. We aren’t totally responsible after all. There is a support system in the faith family.
We, the members of your faith family, will help you learn what your child needs to grow into his or her full mature potential. Together we will encourage you when your patience runs short. Together we will provide you ways to identify and meet your own needs as a new parent.
This newsletter is one way we do this. We welcome your feedback and hope you find it helpful. Speaking of helpful, this newsletter is brought to you primarily through the efforts of Michelle Beck, who has seen her own two precious little children through those first few months of sleepless nights now well into toddler hood and young childhood. Thanks, Michelle, for getting us started.
Blessings, Pastor Kathy Haueisen, Associate Pastor for Faith Formation.
