Souper Bowl Sunday
In addition to the “Big Game”
in February, Christ the King Church’s very own Luther League will celebrate
“Souper Bowl Sunday” on February 6. Our youth will
join young people in churches all across the country in using soup pots to collect
money for those who are hungry and hurting. In 2004, over 12,000 groups in all
50 states participated in the Souper Bowl of Caring generating over $3.5 million.
All of the money collected is donated to a charity selected by the participating
youth group. None of the money is sent to Souper Bowl headquarters. Organizers
only ask that each participant report their collection so national totals can
be determined and announced. The Luther League will donate our congregation’s
Souper Bowl collection to SEARCH-Houston’s Alternative to Homelessness.
Since the Souper Bowl of Caring became a national grassroots event in 1993, more
than $20 million has gone to help those in need. Please support the youth of our
church in this effort to “love our neighbors” by dropping a dollar
(or two!) in the soup pot on February 6.
