Usher Training, February 12

Have you ever thought about what would happen if we did not have ushers at our worship services? The ushers are our frontline of hospitality and assist in making our worship services go smoothly. Please consider joining this important ministry at Christ the King Lutheran Church. Long-time ushers Phil and Ute Cezeaux remark that ushering is a great way to get to see fellow members and at the same time make an important contribution to the church. They find that incorporating the routine of ushering into their congregational life is both “comfortable and enjoyable.” Jill Bailer agrees with Phil and Ute and adds that ushering helps her to put names and faces together, especially on Name Tag Sundays. Susan Myres views the job of an usher as “the single best job for a person who has a busy schedule and who likes being around people. Your only time commitment is shortly before the service to get people to their seats and shortly afterwards to clean up. If you are new to the church it is a great way to get to know people and for them to get to know you. If you have been around a long time it is equally fun to greet people and make a difference in the welcome to our church with your smile. The church staff makes it easy to block off time you know you will not be available or need to switch with other ushers. If you haven’t tried it you should.”

Training for both novice and experienced ushers will be on Saturday, February 12, 10:00 a.m.-noon. Join us in the narthex at 10:00 a.m. until noon for pastries and coffee, and learn how you can put your smile and your friendliness to good use. If you are unable to attend the training but are interested in learning more, please contact Beverly Davis or 713-523-2864 ext. 27.
