“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” -John 16:12-13
In 2005, Christ the King Lutheran Church celebrates the 60th anniversary of
God’s call for our congregation to witness in this place. We are a center
of Christian worship, music, education, hospitality, and service. In recent
years, we planned, financed and constructed new facilities, and we expanded
programming to serve our growing membership and the community around us.
However, God commanded his people to set aside a time to rest and to turn our
attention to Him. Just as our senior pastor will use his sabbatical time for
renewal and reflection, the congregation may engage in a Sabbath time for regeneration
and re-creation, to recognize God at work among us, to refresh ourselves and
to reflect on all that we have accomplished in God’s name over the past
60 years.
As we continue our work, it is the intention of the congregation of Christ the King Lutheran Church to dedicate 2005 as a time of Sabbath, a time to discern what it means for us to be a God-centered community. In order to seek God’s help during this Sabbath time, we recommit ourselves to prayer—which is being attentive to God in worship, meditation, intercession, Bible reading, service, and daily activity—because it is through prayer that God communicates with us and we learn God’s will.
