The Melanchthon Institute proudly presents Douglas John Hall—theologian, author, and winner of numerous book awards—who will offer a lecture series on A Theologian’s Journey: Thinking Christian Faith from 1950 to the Present—A Personal Approach.
All lectures will take place in the parish hall and will begin with a catered meal. The cost is $45 which includes a meal each evening.
Participants may wish to prepare for the lectures by reading some of Prof. Hall’s books. Those most pertinent to these topics include The Cross in Our Context: Jesus and the Suffering World (Minneapolis: Fortress, 2003); Lighten Our Darkness: Towards an Indigenous Theology of the Cross (Revised and Enlarged Edition, Lima, Ohio: Academic Renewal Press, 2001); Remembered Voices: Reclaiming the Legacy of ‘Neo-Orthodoxy’ (Louisville: Westminster/John Knox, 1998); and God and Human Suffering (Minneapolis: Augsburg/Fortress, 1986).
Douglas John Hall is Emeritus Professor of Christian Theology at McGill University in Montreal. He holds the highest civilian honor of his country, the Order of Canada (C.M.). Three of his books have received the “Book of the Year Award” from the Academy of Parish Clergy USA. Prof. Hall was Theologian-in-Residence at the Melanchthon Institute in 1999. He is married to Rhoda Palfrey Hall. They have four children and five grandchildren.
