2004 Confirmation Class

On Sunday, May 23 at the 10:50 service we celebrate with the English-language confirmation students and their families as they affirm their baptism and are confirmed into the membership of our congregation.

Included in this year’s confirmation class are: Benjamin Wendt, Timothy Winston, Matthew Winston, and Michael Sandoz.

Benjamin Wendt is completing the eighth grade at the Trafton Academy. He plans to attend Lamar High School next year, studying in the business magnet program. Ben is an avid and accomplished baseball player. He also likes basketball, football and soccer. His goals are to be a U.S. Marine and to own a restaurant.

Ben found the Apostles’ Creed to be the most important part of the confirmation curriculum. His fondest recollection is of trips with the class for ice cream. He would rather forget the amount of studying required, yet his advice to future students is to study more.

Timothy Winston is home schooled. He likes soccer, swimming, and riding his bike. He plays Go, chess, reads, draws, plays piano, gardens, cooks, and likes birds and animals. He is in Boy Scouts, Luther League, sings in the youth choir, and acolytes. He has no clue what he wants to be when he grows up or he wants to be Peter Pan when he doesn’t grow up. His favorite part of confirmation was having Brannon as a mentor and Pastor Moore’s classes. His least favorite part was lack of trips to the beach, and lack of vacations. The most important thing that he learned was that he could memorize the Small Catechism. Next year’s students need to be cool about fire safety, don’t play around downed power lines and don’t study at all because it will clutter your brain and fill it with useful information.

Matthew Winston is home schooled. He likes soccer, swimming, and riding his bike. He plays Go, chess, reads, draws, and plays the piano. He is in Boy Scouts, Luther League, sings in the youth choir, and acolytes. He has no clue as to what he wants to be when he grows up or he might be an actor, lawyer, or pastry chef. His favorite part of confirmation was having Brannon as a mentor. His least favorite part was studying. The most important thing that he learned was that memorization is not easy and he learned the Ten Commandments. Next year’s students need to study hard.

Michael Sandoz is currently an 8th grader at Seabrook Intermediate School and will attend Clear Lake High School for the next four years. After graduation, Michael plans to own a bar that also serves food. His favorite past-time is playing video/computer games. When asked what people should know about him, Michael, who is a person of few words, said “Tell them I love Jesus.” Michael’s favorite part of confirmation class was the ice cream. His least favorite part was having to work on something other than relaxing. Michael thinks that the most important thing he learned was that Intermediate School Language Arts teachers don’t necessarily know their Bible facts. His advice for next year’s students is “do your work.”
