Volunteers in Ministry - When people volunteer, good things happen...

Kudos to Scott Swanson for his initiation of an inmate education program to teach prisoners life skills via TV link.
He got the wheels rolling for a long distance learning program via video conferencing for female inmates on financial management, family dynamics and women’s health.

Scott Swanson has been a volunteer at Texas Cooperative Extension (TEC)for more than 20 years. TEC teaches lifestyle courses throughout the community.

Lutheran Helping Hands is very grateful for the ministry of our member Mary Ayres. Mary has been active with the organization since 1992 and has served both as its secretary and as a director. She has been Lutheran Helping Hands’ president for the past eight years. Lutheran Helping Hands provides affordable housing for patients at the Texas Medical Center who are here for extended treatment. At the present time, they maintain ten apartments at the Nob Hill Apartment complex on North Braeswood. They also help with transportation and provide care baskets to residents each month. It is a rare occasion when Mary misses her weekly visits with the residents. Mary’s compassion and leadership are appreciated by both volunteers and the residents alike.
