Our Good Neighbors from the South

Our missionary, David Brondos is dean of the Theological Community and the Lutheran Seminary in Mexico City.

Dear friends in Christ,

We pray that all is well with you. Here in Mexico we are doing well in general. Our daughter Elizabeth (19) is in Monterrey on a trip with some of the students from her University (Valparaiso) for a week, before coming here next Sunday to spend her other week of Spring break. Our other daughter Monica (12) just got back from a school trip to Puerto Vallarta, where they went to see the whales. Alicia continues to be busy helping her mother and doing other things. We are all keeping busy with things at our church, the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, where God continues to bless our work as a congregation—we have received a number of new families and individuals into membership the last several weeks, and efforts to get the members more involved and active are increasingly bearing fruits. So that goes well.

Regarding the Theological Community and Lutheran Seminary here, the enrollment has gone down slightly. The main reason for this is the economic situation here—several students have had to take a lighter load or take a semester off in order to work. A couple of others have had to suspend their studies for health reasons. However, we have a class of very qualified people just about to graduate, including several from the Lutheran Seminary. One of the plans with the graduates is that, in addition to them being ordained into the pastoral ministry, they will also become involved in teaching and preparing others. This will enable the church here to expand its efforts in theological education. So we ask for your prayers for those about to finish.

For some time I have been wanting to send out to you all an article that was done by Velma Rice, one of the members at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Houston. They have sponsored us for several years, and last Fall brought a group to Mexico to do a program at the Lutheran Center. As you can read there, these programs are very transforming for all those who participate in them. The Division for Global Missions supports a couple of missionaries working full-time to direct these programs, headed up by Rev. Kim Erno, and it would be great if those of you who haven’t had a chance to come here with a group from your congregation might consider that. So I hope you enjoy reading the article.

We thank you for your support and prayers once more—it means a great deal to us to know that you are with us in heart and spirit! May God continue to bless the many ministries in which you are involved!

Yours in Christ,

David Brondos
