Get to Know the Altar Guild

Most of us take for granted that, when we arrive for worship services, new flowers will be placed near the altar, the communion cups will be clean and ready, the cloths pressed, the bread fresh.

During Advent we expect the traditional four-candle wreath. Then, on the evening of December 24, we are pleased—but not terribly surprised—that poinsettias and greenery have transformed the solemnity of Advent into the glorious splendor of Christmas. And the stripping of the altar on Maundy Thursday, along with the re-vesting at the Easter Vigil, are such beautiful expressions of the liturgies that we can hardly imagine the services without them.

Of course, we know these amenities do not happen without the planning, dedication, and commitment of the Altar Guild. The Guild just makes everything appear so natural that we sometimes forget.

On Saturday April 3, at 10 a.m. the Altar Guild will meet in the parish hall to make palm crosses for Palm Sunday’s services. They invite anyone who is interested to bring a lunch and work with them. You may decide that this is a group you’d like to join.
