Reflections on the Passion prior to Holy Week

In light of the interest generated by the Hollywood film, The Passion of the Christ, the series will turn to the canonical sources concerning the passion of Christ. The passion of Christ plays a central role in each of the Gospels, and yet each account is a little different. This Lenten series will view each Gospel’s telling of the story of Jesus through the lens of their respective interpretations of the trial and crucifixion of Jesus. The political and theological implications of each passion narrative will be explored with an emphasis on the question of how the respective depictions of what Jesus endured might have shaped the faith and practice of his followers.

Prof. Ray Pickett is Associate Professor of New Testament and Associate Academic Dean of the Lutheran Seminary Program of the Southwest. He earned the Master of Divinity degree from Wartburg Theological Seminary and Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield (Sheffield, England), a leading center for narratalogical study of the Bible.

Childcare will be available. Please notify the church office if you intend to make use of the nursery.
