Formula for Parish Practice

Taught by our renowned resident scholar, Professor Timothy J. Wengert
Tuesday evenings during October, 7:30 p.m. 9:00 p.m.

Every Christian denomination has its own "questions," issues specifically connected to the things they hold most dear.  For Lutherans, those questions revolve around the biggest questions of all: salvation by grace through faith on account of Christ alone and Christ's (real) presence in the Lord's Supper.  This course will provide an opportunity to look at some of those specifically Lutheran questions, guided by the first generation of Lutherans after Luther, who wrote a "Formula of Concord" to resolve debates over these questions.  Over 400 years later, their witness to the faith can reinvigorate and inform our congregational life.  Specific topics for the four week course are:

October 7
"But Babies Are So Cute!" The Original Problem with Human Beings and Why We Baptize Everyone
October 14
Getting Right(eous) with God: Christians Are Declared, Not Made
October 21
How Lutherans Receive the Lord's Supper
October 28
Dealing with Congregational Conflict: Neutral Things in a Polarized World

The registration fee is $60 and the class will be held at Christ the King Church.
