One of the thematic emphases this Fall at CTK is on Jewish-Christian dialogue. Over the last decade, the ELCA has taken major steps to improve its relations with the Jewish communities (see http://www.elca.org/ea/Resources). Rabbi Roy Walter, senior rabbi at Congregation Emanu El, preached at Christ the King on Sunday, August 24. Rabbi Walter will teach an Introduction to Judaism class in the Adult Forum, on September 14, 21,and 28. Finally, the Melanchthon Institute, together with the Houston Holocaust Museum, will sponsor a symposium titled "Martin Luther and Judaism" at the Holocaust Museum on November 2.
In October the Adult Forum will offer several classes. On October 5 and 19 Federico Salas-Isnardi will teach a class on the use of space, including sacred space, in different cultures. Also beginning on October 5, Barbara Rozek will offer a class on major biblical figures, titled "Talking Back to God." On October 12, Dr. Günther Frank, Director of the Melanchthon Museum in Bretten, Germany, will speak to the Forum. And on October 26, November 9, and November 16, Professor Timothy Wengert, our resident theologian this fall, will give a series of lectures on reformation theology.
