Parenting Class Offered this Fall

Do you have a child (or children) six years of age or younger? Then you may be interested in a course: "Parenting Young Children: An Interactive Approach" offered this Fall on seven consecutive Sunday mornings during the Adult Forumtime beginning Sunday, September 14, and concluding on Sunday, October 26.

This class will be led by Christ the King member Barbara Anderson-Thomas, Ph.D., a psychologist and child development researcher and now Associate Professor in Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. Barbara credits her passion about parent education focused on these early "building block years" to her two daughters, who have been her greatest teachers. The course will be based around the book Parenting Young Children: Systematic Training for Effective Parenting of Children under Six by Don Dinkmeyer, Ph.D., and colleagues.

The course is built to give parents a practical and structured approach to enjoying and optimizing their interactions with their young children. We will follow the book's curriculum closely and parents will benefit from reading the book and "homework assignments" between Sunday sessions (There will be no tests or papers! You are busy enough!) This course will build your competence in the 3 R's of parenting:

Copies of the book Parenting Young Children: Systematic Training for Effective Parenting of Children Under Six by Don Dinkmeyer, Ph.D. are available in the church office for $10. For maximum benefit, parents are encouraged to make a commitment to attend all seven Sunday sessions (if possible). The course will be limited to twenty families to insure opportunity for individual attention and continuity in the group's interactions.

Please contact the church office if you are interested in participating in this opportunity to share and learn together. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Barbara during the day at work 713-798-6790 or at home in the evenings or on weekends.
