Letter from Those Whom We Have Helped

Dear Friends in Christ,

Thank you for your support of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Missionary Sponsorship Program! Because of your support during the fiscal year 2002, we received a total of $4,021,629.40. No ELCA missionaries were called home because of lack of Missionary Sponsorship funds. The story is very different for several other Lutheran and Protestant denominations who had to bring home many missionaries. Our support remains strong, and for that I want to say a special word of thanks! In fact, in 2003, we will show an increase in the number of ELCA missionaries being commissioned for service across the world!

Our records show the following Missionary Sponsorship support: Missionary David Brandos- 2002 Gifts: $1710.00.

In 2003 we ask for your continued support of the ELCA Missionary Program, This includes:

  1. Continuing a strong, faithful, and when possible an increase in financial support;
  2. Praying for your missionary and the other missionaries of the ELCA;
  3. Telling the story of God's global mission in your congregation; and
  4. Encouraging others to become an ELCA Missionary Sponsoring congregation.

PEACE IN CHRIST!

The Rev. David P. Lerseth, Director, Global Mission Support

Dear Christian Friends,

Do you folks realize that Christ the King Lutheran Church has been supporting the Hospitality Apartment ministry for 23 years? It's true! You first heard of the work through the efforts of Pastor Edwin Peterman in 1981, and Pastor Robert Moore has continued to encourage the faithful support to this day. You are extremely well represented on our Board of Trustees and Advisors by Dr. Lynn P. Rosas, who was one of the early guiding lights of the ministry. We are also grateful for the annual Fellowship Dinners your members have provided through the leadership of Naomi Nelson, and, of course, the most recent extremely generous $7,523,70 annual gift through the HRDF appeal. Please express our thanks to those who participated.

The Hospitality Apartments provide a vital service to the families in need who have come for treatment in the Texas Medical Center hospitals. Later this year we will have served our five thousandth family. We've had families from every state in the U.S. (except Rhode Island) and 56 foreign countries. Right now Cyprus and Jordan are represented. Don't those sound like good Biblical names?

Again let me invite members of CTK to visit our physical plant. May the Lord continue to bless all of us as together we serve Him through this unique ministry.

Joe W. Hightower, Ph.D. President

Dear Friends in Christ:

Thank you SO MUCH for again naming us as recipients of the proceeds of $12,870.48 from your auction. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and was so impressed with how well done it was. We are obviously thrilled to be on the receiving end of the successful results of all that hard work.

Your partnership with us means a great deal to us. As I write this we are busy trying to get the paper work finished up to prepare for the 750 campers registered for summer 2003 to date. In a couple of hours we will welcome back residents from the Houston Lighthouse for the Blind. We are their annual vacation destination.

We are working with an architect to do the design of the proposed chapel. I met with our consultant all day Tuesday to plan the details of our annual campaign efforts. Many good and exciting things are happening at Lutherhill. Our partnership with you is one of these and we are very grateful to you for it.

Blessings,

Kathryn M. Haueisen, Executive Director
