June 1 Contemporary Issues
Cancer Awareness- Joyce Greenfield, Associate Director of Cancare Cancer Support Network, will discuss how our new cancer ministry, CanCare, can assist us in helping others struggling with a cancer diagnosis.

Exploring Issues of Human Rights in the International Scene Carroll Shaddock will facilitate a discussion on the meaning/significance/continuing appropriateness of references to God in our national "charter documentation" (Declaration of Independence, coinage, Pledge of Allegiance, etc.).
June 8 The Future for Mission Efforts in Central Africa
Barbara Hinderlie will speak about her family's experiences there and the future for mission activities with the unrest in Central Africa.

Barbara and her husband, Pastor Andy Hinderlie, have served as missionaries in the Central African Republic since 1998. They were evacuated last fall because of a civil war in CAR. Pastor Hinderlie taught at the seminary in Baboua, and Barbara worked with literacy programs and at an orphanage in CAR. They have a two-year-old son Michael. In August they will go to Kenya where Pastor Hinderlie will be the Eastern Africa Regional Representative, acting as laision between East African Companion Churches and agencies and with ELCA mission personnel serving in that area. Before going to CAR, Barbara, a chemical engineer, worked for Shell Chemical Co. 1991-98, and Pastor Hinderlie was associate pastor at Christ the King Church in Kenner, LA.
June 8 Bible/Theology Series
"Interpreting Scripture as Drama/Comedy." Lucky Sahualla will lead the class in taking Bible stories from the page and preparing them for the stage (or screen). We will look at interpretive decisions that would be made in preparing the stories for dramatic presentation (or for filming) and how that process allows for exploring the passage. The class is designed for the dramatic novice and will not require any performance. Please bring a Bible.

Lucky has taught the High School class for the past 8 years, directed musicals, and written and directed Christmas and Easter pageants here at Christ the King Church. He has performed in numerous community musicals and plays.

June 22 Ray Mack reviews the book Life of Pi by Yann Martel.
June 29 J. R. Lankford reviews her own book, The Jesus Thief. (Note: the author will return on August 10 to discuss her publishing experience; those who have read the book by that time will also be able to discuss her book with her).
