For more than 28 years Bread for the World has been a Christian voice for ending hunger. BFW is a nonpartisan citizens' movement of 46,000 people of faith, including 2,000 churches, including Christ the King. BFW members help hungry people by lobbying our nation's decision makers on legislation that addresses hunger in our communities and around the world. We participate by offering letters to our congress representatives asking for support of hunger legislation.
This year we are asking members in Congress to cosponsor and provide full funding for legislation that establishes a Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) focused on poverty reduction around the world. The MCA is an initiative proposed by President Bush to provide poor countries committed to poverty reduction with the resources to achieve their goals. The MCA would help poor people feed their families, fight infectious diseases and send their children to school.
We will be hosting an Offering of Letters workshop on May 10 with Larry Payne, chief of staff for Representative Chris Bell, in attendance. Then we will hold the Offering of Letters on May 11, 2003, Mother's Day. Addresses, sample letters, paper, pens and postage stamps are made available after each service that morning.
