Adult Forum Discussion about Parish Nursing at Christ the King Lutheran Church

The following comments were shared in the Adult Forum on February 2nd.

  1. The CPR class was well received and several members suggest that the congregation look into obtaining an AED (automated external defibrillator). They cost about $1400, but research supports the benefits of their use as an early intervention for heart attack victims. Also note that safety kits are located in the Sacristy, infant nursery and the bathroom on the third floor. Kits will soon be placed in the Sunday School office and the kitchen. Appropriate signs about these locations will be displayed.
  2. Having a folding wheelchair available in the nave would be helpful for worshippers needing a little extra help.
  3. It would be nice to have a health library. We have some funds available. What kind of books would you like to see? Medication information, aging issues, parenting? Call Linda Schoene with suggestions.
  4. A class on first aid and health issues relating to children. Our newborn and toddler population is growing. Perhaps there is interest in forming another parents group.
  5. Monthly blood pressure screenings would be helpful.
  6. Use Banner articles to keep the congregation aware of legislative issues related to healthcare.
  7. Ask the youth what kinds of health information they would like.

Thank you for all your input. This list should keep the Parish Nurse busy for awhile. For our younger set—check out www.sparky.org for games and information about fire safety.
