Chair in Gerontological Nursing and Professor in the School of Nursing and Direction
of the UT-Houston Center on Aging, and Naomi Nelson, Researcher and Co-Associate
Director of Education for Parkinson's Disease Research at the Education &
Clinical Center at Houston's VA Medical Center. This discussusion will continue
in February with the following speakers:

years and is now our congregation's Parish Nurse, will speak on the parish
nursing program at CTK.
- February 9: Sharon, Naomi, and Linda will sit in a panel to facilitate
a general discussion on issues of aging and caregiving.
The next topics to be addressed include:
- February 16: Habitat for Humanity volunteer Richard Baker and Brad

community, will speak. Richard will discuss the International Jimmy Carter
Work Projects; Brad will explain how the local Houston Habitat affiliate operates.

designed to foster reconciliation between offenders and victims. Over the

these 12-week programs in four Texas State Prisons.
The class will meet in the adult classroom in the basement at 9:45 am.
Biblical/Theological Studies
The first Biblical/Theological Studies class of 2003 will be taught by Allan
Dieter. Allan served as an ordained Lutheran minister, primarily working as
a Campus Minister, until 1974. He will present a six-week course entitled The
Gospel According to the Gospels, reviewing the themes of Paul Bretscher's
Christianity's Unknown Gospel. February classes will focus on the following
topics:
- February 2: "Nature of Revelation and Biblical Covenants"
- Biblical revelations are combined with the basic covenant of becoming the
children of God, not becoming part of a superior elite.
- February 9: "Reconstructing Biblical Messages"
- Biblical themes are often distorted when modern world views and assumptions
are applied. Attempts to reconstruct the Biblical messages using New Testament
world views are more fruitful.
- February 16: "Resistance to Jesus' Ministry"
- Jewish law, priestly authority and sometimes even his own disciples resisted
Jesus' ministry, which flew in the face of how Jewish tradition was understood
at that time.
- February 23: "The Metaphors of the Jesus, Stories and Parables"
- Stories and parables use metaphors both to reveal and to conceal truths.
The class will meet in the second floor Council room at 9:45 a.m.
