Hundreds of thousands of children worldwide, from infants to teen-agers, live in orphanages. In Russia alone there are about 600,000 such children. Lutheran Social Services of the South has been part of a program to facilitate international adoptions since the late 1940s. It has found homes for nearly 5,300 children.
According to Regina Slaton, newly appointed Executive Director of International Adoption, "Single parents, parents with children already in the home, and some people with disabilities can adopt the child that they have dreamed of. They don't have to wait years to create a family."

The capital campaign to build the Village at Cypress Creek, a faith-based retirement community in northwest Houston, has passed the half-way mark with nearly $1.4 million in gifts and pledges.
The facility will provide a continuum of care for more than 230 residents. It will offer private and congregant independent living, assisted living, home health care, and long-term Alzheimer's care.
A full program of social, recreational, and educational events will be provided. It will also participate in Stephen Ministry, training lay people to provide Christian care and support for others on a peer-to-peer basis.
